Fondé en 1969 par Vincent Crane, ancien organiste du Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Atomic Rooster a enregistré cinq albums entre 1969 et 1973 et a connu deux succès : " Tomorrow Night " et " Devil's Answer ", respectivement en 1970 et 1971. La composition du groupe variait d'un album à l'autre, mais il était généralement admis que la formation " classique " du groupe, composée de Vincent Crane, John Du Cann (guitare, chant) et Paul Hammond (batterie), existait entre 1970 et 1971. Atomic Rooster se sépara finalement en 1975, mais en 1980, Vincent Crane et John Du Cann reformèrent le groupe pour enregistrer un nouvel album. Les sessions d'enregistrement incluaient Preston Heyman à la batterie et l'album Atomic Rooster sortit en septembre 1980. L'album, au style rock musclé, fut bien accueilli.
